Dear friends,
Scientific knowledge inspires creativity, drives economic development, enhances social well-being and advances environmental sustainability–here in Chicago and around the world.
At this moment, our next generation’s scientists are in high school, junior high and elementary school. Soon they will be in college. We believe it is critical that we provide them with a scientific education of the highest level if our society is to remain healthy, internationally prominent and economically strong. The preparation of the next generation’s physicians, engineers, scientists, technology experts, medical researchers, inventors, entrepreneurs and science teachers, depends on the education we offer them today.

Father Dennis H. Holtschneider and Frank M. Clark
DePaul’s Campaign for Excellence in Science responds boldly to this challenge. DePaul has long prepared highly educated scientists for Illinois’ scientific and medical communities, and long been one of the major providers of teachers in Illinois schools. With the
adoption of its new strategic plan, DePaul University intends to position
itself as a leader in science education for the 21st century.
A new science facility will enable DePaul faculty to create an innovative, collaborative atmosphere for learning. Hands-on, inquiry-based science courses using advanced instruments in state-of-the-art teaching laboratories will excite students about science. An endowment for
scholarships will help recruit and retain a deeper pool of DePaul students prepared for careers in science-related industries and services, K-12 science education, and science research. It will also allow DePaul to offer all its students a level of science literacy so that they can make informed ethical decisions in our postindustrial, increasingly
complex global society.
In the Vincentian tradition of concern for human flourishing, we invite you to join us in meeting this challenge to strengthen science education at DePaul for the benefit of all the communities we serve.
The Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M.
